Really, I requested new function for my needs and I had beta version on my computer 24 hours later, and updated Igor version was out in few weeks. And Wavemetrics user support is second to none. But the features of Igor Pro are very much worth the price, which is compared to other similar platforms very reasonable. Igor Pro is commercial package and current direction in SAS software is clearly towards non-commercial platforms. I do not want to dwell too much on the other packages so I do not misrepresent them, but as author of Irena I think I can provide some background to help potential users. As far as I can say none of them is specifically bio-package, but each contains at least some tools which can be useful to bio community. There is really not much competition among these packages, as each is targeted slightly differently. For few years the authors of these packages are trying to improve interoperability among these packages - with limited success. There are three major sources of SAS software for Igor Pro in the US - NIST, APS (Irena/Nika/Indra, this audience needs to consider only Irena), and ORNL (Ken Littrell). Probably they are related to this publication by S.R. I could not find these utilities online (may be I didn't look well enough). Littrell about utilities for SANS data reduction and graphical analysis - also for IGOR Pro but apparently not related to Irena. So my experience with Irena was not exactly positive but may be it is good for other goals.Īt the SAS09 conference in Oxford there was a presentation of K.C. Using the Irena PDDF tool I did not manage to obtain the P(r) function for good quality BSA data. Instead of a manual there are video files in QuickTime format which explain step-by-step how to achieve this or that The Irena GUI can be quite confusing, it takes a while just to load a file, then a while just to plot it IGOR Pro exists for Windows and Mac only (not for Linux), I used the Windows version IGOR Pro is commercial software (they have a trial version). My goal was to analyze SAXS data from biological objects, particularly to obtain P(r) functions automatically. I actually tried the Irena package (v2.32a) for IGOR Pro about half a year ago.
